FLOOR SAFETY

Safety Comes First — From Preparation to Project Completion

At Sealwell, maintaining a safe, organized, and controlled work environment is an important part of every industrial and commercial flooring project. Our flooring teams follow established jobsite safety practices throughout surface preparation, floor installation, coating application, curing, cleanup, and project completion.

Before work begins, the project area, flooring conditions, equipment requirements, materials, and potential jobsite hazards are reviewed so the installation team can prepare appropriately. Safety practices are maintained throughout the project to help protect our team, our customers, facility employees, visitors, equipment, and surrounding work areas.

Sealwell Flooring Installation Safety Guidelines

  1. Pre-Installation Site Review

Before flooring work begins, the project area is reviewed to identify potential hazards and installation conditions that may require additional precautions.

The team checks the work area, access points, floor condition, surrounding operations, equipment locations, utilities, and other factors that may affect safe project execution.

  1. Work Area Isolation & Access Control

Active flooring installation areas are clearly identified and separated from normal facility traffic whenever necessary.

Barricades, caution tape, cones, signage, or other appropriate controls may be used to help prevent unauthorized access and keep employees and visitors away from active surface preparation, installation, and curing areas.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Team members use appropriate personal protective equipment based on the work being performed and the conditions of the jobsite.

Depending on the task, PPE may include:

  • Safety glasses or protective eyewear
  • Protective gloves
  • Safety footwear
  • Hearing protection
  • Respiratory protection when required
  • High-visibility clothing when appropriate
  • Hard hats when required by the facility or jobsite
  1. Safe Surface Preparation

Surface preparation can involve grinders, vacuums, shot-blasting equipment, hand tools, and other machinery. Equipment is inspected and used appropriately, and work areas are managed to reduce unnecessary exposure to dust, debris, cords, hoses, and moving equipment.

Dust-control and housekeeping practices are maintained throughout the preparation process.

  1. Safe Handling of Flooring Materials

Epoxy, polyurethane, resinous flooring materials, primers, repair products, cleaners, and other installation materials are handled according to appropriate product and jobsite requirements.

Containers are kept properly managed, materials are stored in designated areas, and unnecessary exposure to flooring products is avoided during mixing and application.

  1. Ventilation & Airflow Management

Where flooring products or installation processes require ventilation, appropriate airflow is maintained within the work area.

The Sealwell team considers the facility environment, occupied spaces, surrounding operations, and product requirements when planning installation activities.

  1. Equipment & Electrical Safety

Flooring equipment, power tools, extension cords, vacuums, grinders, mixers, and related equipment are checked before and during use.

Cords, hoses, tools, and equipment are positioned to help reduce trip hazards and keep access routes as clear as practical.

  1. Good Housekeeping Throughout the Project

A clean jobsite is an important part of a safe jobsite.

Tools, packaging, flooring materials, debris, cords, and equipment are kept organized throughout the project. Waste and installation debris are removed from active work areas as appropriate.

  1. Slip, Trip & Fall Prevention

Wet coatings, prepared surfaces, cords, hoses, tools, equipment, and construction materials can create temporary hazards during flooring installation.

Active work areas are controlled and clearly identified, and walkways and access points are managed to help reduce unnecessary slip, trip, and fall risks.

  1. Communication With Facility Personnel

Before and during installation, the flooring team coordinates with appropriate facility contacts regarding work areas, access restrictions, facility operations, project sequencing, and other relevant site conditions.

Clear communication helps flooring work proceed safely while minimizing unnecessary disruption to surrounding operations.

  1. Curing Area Protection

Newly installed flooring and coatings may require controlled curing time before they can safely accept foot traffic, equipment, forklifts, or other loads.

Installation areas remain appropriately restricted until the flooring system has reached the required stage for access or use.

  1. Final Safety & Work Area Review

At the completion of flooring work, the project area is reviewed before being returned to normal facility operations.

Tools, equipment, installation materials, temporary barriers, and debris are addressed as appropriate, and the completed floor is checked before the area is released for use.
