Fixing Concrete Slope Issue for KDB Group Without Existing Slab Removal
Overview:
KDB Group, a prominent player in commercial development, encountered a critical issue at one of its sites. During a concrete pour, they unintentionally forgot to build the required slope for efficient drainage. This oversight posed serious consequences, including standing water, surface degradation, and safety hazards. Concerned about the risks and damages, the client turned to Sealwell for a smarter flooring solution.
Client’s Requirements:
The client was concerned about the cost, project delays, and disruption involved in removing and re-pouring the entire slab. They sought an effective, non-invasive flooring solution that could fix the issue without removing the existing surface.
Challenges:
Though our team was confident enough to deliver a proper slope without slab removal, they encountered a set of challenges in this project:
- Since the existing concrete surface had already cured, there was hardly any possibility for adjustments or rework.
- The project was part of a larger construction timeline. Hence, we had to ensure that the work wouldn’t disrupt the ongoing site operations.
Our Objectives & Solution:
Considering the client’s requirements and understanding the challenges, we decided to do concrete resurfacing that does not require existing slab removal.
Our objectives were to:
- Engineer the slope with high precision and ensure effective drainage without compromising structural stability.
- Achieving a strong and durable bond between the new overlay material and the cured slab.
Implementation Process:
Here’s a methodological process we followed:
- Site assessment: Our team conducted a thorough inspection to evaluate the exact issue and determine the corrective gradient required.
- Surface preparation: After a proper assessment, they prepared the surface by properly cleaning the debris and ensuring a flawless overlay application.
- Slope regrading design: We developed a custom overlay profile that gradually introduced the correct slope for optimal water drainage.
- Overlay application: Finally, we installed a high-performing overlay system that creates a smooth, durable surface with the newly engineered slope.
- Curing & finishing: Later on, the surface was cured under controlled conditions. We added a slip-resistant texturing to ensure safety and compliance with performance standards.
Results:
Post installation, we inspected the site to ensure drainage efficiency and surface integrity. We noticed that our team succeeded in delivering a durable and functional flooring solution without the need for surface demolition.
Here are a few highlights:
- Slope issue fully corrected
- No slab removal required
- Zero disruption to the surrounding construction
- Reduced project costs by over 40% compared to re-pouring
- Long-lasting surface durability and water management
Client Feedback:
Our client was highly impressed with the approach we used to meet the desired results. He mentioned, “Sealwell delivered exactly what we needed and at a cost-effective rate. Their professional team efficiently and effectively handled concrete surface challenges, thereby creating a benchmark in commercial flooring installation.”
